The Summer Blessings and Summer Zone is one of the smaller missions we do for select trailer park communities in Denton County. Once a month during June, July, and August, we invite kids from these underserved areas to get outside and have some fun in the sun with their friends. Activities include but are not limited to:
- Water balloon fights
- Water obstacle courses
- Music and dancing
- Food and delicious treats from local restaurants
- And so much more
The idea started innocently enough in 2015 when we heard from one of our school counselors that a young girl she worked with shockingly did not know when her birthday was. A little investigating showed that she wasn’t alone. Many kids in the same community had the same problem and had never experienced their own birthday party. Sadly, many of their friends were never allowed to come because their parents didn’t want them visiting a trailer community. Mission Moms and a group of generous volunteers got together to give these children the summer birthday party of their lives, and everything grew from there.
One of the greatest blessings a person can receive is watching young children laugh, excitedly run around and play with their friends, and get to experience many of the same things our children enjoy every day. We cannot begin to express in words how much this mission impacts their lives, and we want to make sure it continues on for generations to come.
Mission Moms did not host a Summer Blessings & Summer Zone during the summer of 2020 because of COVID-19. Plans are taking shape for Summer 2021, and we would love for you to be a part of it.
